How to rate YouTube videos out of five stars
In YouTube a video gets a thumbs up or a thumbs down, and since 2021 the number of dislikes isn't shown to viewers. That tells the channel something; it doesn't tell you much a year later, when you're trying to remember whether that two-hour documentary was worth recommending.
Keep your own scores. A spreadsheet with the link, the date and a score out of five is enough to start. What usually goes wrong is keeping it up: copying links by hand is the part people stop doing.
Or use an app made for it. In Krater you share a video from the YouTube app to Krater, or paste its link, then tap the stars: half stars are fine. Add a review if you have something to say, for everyone or just for you. Your ratings stay yours: Krater shows its members' ratings and never mixes them with the figures YouTube shows.
